12/21 Extended Original Alpine Challenge Route 12/21 8am from Alpine Elementary

The planned ride is the Extended Original Alpine Challenge course (72 miles with about 6,800 vertical feet of climbing). It will depart from Alpine Elementary School in Alpine at 8:00 A.M. The ride is a
very scenic and challenging and has most of the climbing up front. A stop to refuel will be made in Descanso and/or Pine Valley. Assuming a reasonable pace riders should be back to the start around Noon. There are many opportunities to either shorten or lengthen the ride. A number of riders plan to do lunch after the ride at Manana’s, a good Mexican restaurant in Alpine and the official headquarters of the irresponsibles. Board meetings have been known to take place during lunch, so if you have agenda items to discuss, this is your big opportunity to take the initiative.

DIRECTIONS: Take I-8 East, Exit Tavern Road in Alpine; turn right at the light at the top of the exit ramp, then turn left at the light at the bottom of the short hill and go about 0.2 miles to Alpine Elementary School on the left just past the Community Center; park at the east end of the parking lot near the street. Allow about 35-40 minutes travel time from La Jolla/Del Mar. Link to Directions

WEATHER: We are now in the winter weather cycle. Plan on a chilly start and some warming. Long range forecasts show Sunny skies and start temps in the mid 40's. Check the forecast before you leave the house. Forecast
